How the Pass Works

Four steps from booking to your first door.

  1. Do the Math First

List the attractions you genuinely want, total the gate prices, compare with the pass for your number of days. Our worth-it guide does it for you.

  2. Book the Right Length

1, 2 or 3-day versions — the per-day price falls on longer passes. Free cancellation to 24 hours if the plan changes.

  3. Stack Your Days

Pass days work hardest consecutive and packed. Anchor each day: Minster morning, Castle Howard trip, Dungeon-and-chocolate day.

  4. Ride the Inclusions

The hop-on hop-off bus and river cruise are transport that is also sightseeing — use them to link the doors instead of taxis.

The Pass, Individual Tickets, or Pay at Each Door?

The honest arithmetic — the pass wins on packed multi-day sightseeing and loses on a light single day.

First things first: York, England — the walled medieval city with the Minster, not the one with the Empire State Building.

The Visit York Pass is the city’s official sightseeing pass: 30+ attractions headlined by York Minster and Castle Howard, plus a 24-hour hop-on hop-off bus and a river cruise, from $97 with free cancellation.

Here is the part most pass sites won’t say: the pass is not automatically a deal. It pays for itself on two or three packed sightseeing days and loses to individual tickets on a light single day — we ran the actual numbers , including the Castle Howard transport catch nobody mentions.

"definitely worth the money! we had a 3 day York pass and pre booked our trips before we went to guarantee access into the attraction. visited York chocolate story, York Cocoa works, Viking Centre, York Castle museum, Boat ride, Bus ride, Roman baths under the roman bath pub! and loads more! definitely got our moneys worth. Highly recommend and pre booking everything in advance to avoid disappointment"

"My girlfriend and I really loved to visit York as a day trip. The York Pass made it so much easier as purchasing separate tickets for each attraction would’ve been more expensive. Our ratings were: - York Minster - 8/10 - impressive cathedral with lots of history to go through. - Jorkvik Viking Centre - 8/10 - animatronics look very realistic and the theme is perfectly recreated as if you were in a movie - York’s Chocolate Story - 10/10 - free chocolate, interactive and funny storytelling - Clifford’s Tower - 6/10 - great views but nothing interesting about it apart from a few signs - City Cruise - 4/10 - not much to see in the Ouse River really. Definitely worth getting the pass for a day or two."

"With the pass you didn't worry about the cost of an attraction and just enjoyed your trip. We visited places which we didn't plan to visit and learned a lot about York. I can't choose a favourite place as each one had a unique character but we would recommend York's chocolate story, York museum and Castle Howard."
